Testing a guitar with a faulty connection can lead to output issues with audio drop-outs and artefacts. A guitar cable would be the best to test with if you are experiencing guitar signal issues using Direct Monitor.
Some guitars include passive pickups and some will include active, battery powered, pickups. If a guitar's 9V battery is low the guitar signal sounds glitchy and crackles, or just has a very low output. It would be best to test with a brand new 9V battery when troubleshooting active guitars.
