Applies to all Focusrite interfaces on macOS 10.14 Mojave onwards
Starting in macOS 10.14 Mojave, Apple introduced a security feature that requires the user to manually "Allow" apps to access the microphone. While the setting refers to "the microphone", it actually controls access to all audio inputs, including your Focusrite audio interface.
When opening an audio app for the first time, you will be presented with the message "Application" would like to access the microphone.
To input audio into your apps using your Focusrite interface, press OK.
If you have clicked Don't Allow, you will need to manually allow microphone access for your software:
macOS 12 Monterey or earlier
Click the lock to make changes.
Tick the apps you would like to access the microphone (and your Focusrite audio interface's inputs).
macOS 13 Ventura onwards
Switch the toggle on for apps you would like to access the microphone (and your Focusrite audio interface's inputs).
If you are using macOS 14 Sonoma onwards, please see the steps in this article, as voice isolation settings can cause additional issues with audio getting to applications: macOS Sonoma/Sequoia/Tahoe recording input issues.
