This article teaches you how to uninstall Focusrite Control on Windows and macOS. We have videos and steps for the easy way to uninstall Focusrite Control, as well as more advanced steps for hidden files you might want to remove.
You might want to uninstall Focusrite Control for a few reasons:
- You’re installing Focusrite Control 2 — we’ve added support for more interfaces in Focusrite Control 2, but for these to work, you must uninstall Focusrite Control first.
- You don’t own a Focusrite interface anymore.
- You’re trying to troubleshoot problems with Focusrite Control.
The following videos and steps teach you the most basic way to uninstall Focusrite Control on macOS and Windows.
Uninstalling Focusrite Control on macOS
To uninstall Focusrite Control on macOS, follow the video or the steps in this section.
To uninstall Focusrite Control on macOS:
- Make sure Focusrite Control isn’t open. If it is open, quit Focusrite Control.
- Open Finder.
- Go to Applications.
- Find Focusrite Control in the application list.
- Right-click Focusrite Control, and click Move to Trash/Move to Bin.
- Right-click on your Trash/Bin and Empty Trash/Bin.
Advanced uninstallation steps for macOS
When you install Focusrite Control on macOS, there are a few extra files that get added. Deleting the Focusrite Control application uninstalls it, but these files can be left behind. To remove them:
- Open Finder.
- Click 'Go' at the top of the screen.
- Select "Go to folder".
- Type /var/db/receipts
- Press enter ⏎
- Find the following files and delete them — every time you delete one, enter your Mac password to confirm:
- com.focusrite.FocusriteControl.bom
- com.focusrite.FocusriteControl.plist
- com.focusrite.pkg.FocusritePCIe.audio_driver.bom
- com.focusrite.pkg.FocusritePCIe.audio_driver.plist
- com.focusrite.pkg.FocusritePCIe.midi_driver.bom
- com.focusrite.pkg.FocusritePCIe.midi_driver.plist
- Close Finder.
- Right-click on your Trash/Bin and Empty Trash/Bin.
- Restart your computer.
Uninstalling Focusrite Control on Windows
To uninstall Focusrite Control on Windows, follow the video or the steps in this section.
To uninstall Focusrite Control on Windows:
- Open Add or Remove Programs, to get there either:
- Click Windows icon in the taskbar and type “add or remove”, then clicking Add or Remove Programs, or,
- Click Windows icon in the taskbar and go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Focusrite Control in the list.
- Click the three dots next to it and select Uninstall.
- Click Uninstall again to confirm.
- When prompted for permissions, click Yes.
- When asked if you want to completely remove Focusrite Control, click Yes. A progress bar appears. Windows confirms when Focusrite Control has been successfully removed.
After this process, Focusrite Control no longer appears on your system.
The driver and other Focusrite installations remain on your system.
