Applies to Reason and all Focusrite USB audio interfaces
This guide walks you through how to set up your Focusrite audio interface in Reason, set up an audio track for recording, and start recording. To learn more about how to use Reason, see Reason's Help Centre:
Windows
Please make sure you've installed the Focusrite audio driver and control software before going through these steps. If you haven't installed the Focusrite audio driver or control software, download them from here.
- Open Reason on your computer.
- In the top menu bar, click Edit > Preferences...
- Select the Audio tab and set the Audio Device to ASIO Focusrite USB ASIO or the name of the interface you're using.
- Next to Active Input Channels, click the Channels... button.
- Click to highlight each set of Inputs to make sure they appear as selectable in Reason.
- Repeat steps 4-5 to activate the output channels on your interface.
macOS
- Open Reason on your computer.
- In the top menu bar, click Reason > Preferences...
- Select the Audio tab and set the Audio Device to Scarlett 2i2 4th Generation or the name of the interface you're using.
- Next to Active Input Channels, click the Channels... button.
- Click to highlight each set of Inputs to make sure they appear as selectable in Reason.
- Repeat steps 4-5 to activate the output channels on your interface.
How to set up an audio track to record
- In the Sequencer, click the Add Track button and select Create Audio Track from the drop down menu.
- Click the Record Enable button
(off) so the track is armed for recording
(on).
- Click the IN and select the input used from the drop down menu.
Set the input to Mono if you are recording with a single microphone or a mono instrument such as a bass or guitar.
Set the input to Stereo if you are recording with a stereo pair of microphones or a stereo instrument such as a keyboard or synthesiser.
- Click the monitor button
(off) to be able to hear yourself when recording
(on).
- Click Record in Reason's transport
to start recording.
