Focusrite Control 2 version 1.490 adds the ability to expand your ADAT channel count by 16 inputs and 16 outputs via the two Optical Input ports and two Optical Output ports:
Note that this is only possible when using single-band sample rates (44.1 or 48 kHz). In this mode, the RCA (coax) S/PDIF Input is disabled, however, you can still use the RCA (coax) S/PDIF Output.
To enable 16-channel ADAT, select the three dots icon (...) in the top-right corner of Focusrite Control 2, then select 'Preferences':
Go to 'Sample rate & clocking' tab and set your Sample rate to either 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, ensuring to match the sample rates on your preamps/expansion units:
Lastly, you will need to ensure that the 'Digital port mode' is set to 'Dual ADAT':
Your 18i20 will now restart, as indicated by Focusrite Control 2. When it's powered back on, you will have access to 16 ADAT inputs and 16 ADAT outputs. The extra inputs will appear in your recording software as Inputs 11-18 (ADAT Input Port 1) & 19-26 (ADAT Input Port 2).
