Scarlett 4th Gen
When you enable phantom power (48V) on your Scarlett 4th gen, the device temporarily mutes the corresponding inputs for 3 seconds. This is to protect any gear or speakers connected to the outputs from electrical transients.
During this 3-second countdown, Auto Gain cannot be engaged for the affected inputs. This restriction ensures that the system doesn’t accidentally adjust gain based on any noises caused by enabling phantom power. Once the countdown is complete and the inputs are unmuted, Auto Gain is fully functional again.
