Applies to:
Scarlett 4th Gen
Limitations at 176.4 and 192kHz
When you set your Scarlett 4th Gen to quad-band sample rates (176.4kHz or 192kHz), the following features are not available:
- Air Presence & Drive (Air Presence still works)
- Clip Safe
You can't enable these features from the front panel of the Scarlett, and Safe flashes red on the device when you can't enable it. When you press the Air button, it only changes to green. In Focusrite Control 2 these functions are disabled and greyed out.
- Mix Sources (16i16, 18i16, and 18i20 only)
Although Focusrite Control 2 disables Mixes as Sources at quad-band sample rates, it's still possible to assign Software Playback channels to your outputs.
If you wanted to create a mix (e.g. for an artist's headphones) you can use a Aux or Send buss in your DAW and route this to your headphones output via a Playback pair.
The process varies by DAW but as a rough guide:
- Create a Aux/Send channel in your DAW.
- Set up each channel you want in your mix to be sent to that send.
- Set the Aux/Send channel to Output via a pair of software outputs, e.g. Playback 3-4
- In Focusrite Control 2's Routing tab, set the Source from a Focusrite Control 2 Mix to Playback 3-4.
Now you can use the channel sends to create a monitor mix in your DAW for artists headphones or anything else.
- S/PDIF channels (16i16, 18i16, and 18i20 only)
- ADAT channels (16i16, 18i16, and 18i20 only)
Limitations at 88.2 and 96kHz
When you set your Scarlett 4th Gen to dual-band sample rates (88.2 and 96kHz), the following features are not available:
- ADAT channels 5-8 (16i16, 18i16, and 18i20 only)
This is due to a limitation in the ADAT digital format meaning that once you increase the channel count, the number of channels an ADAT cable can transfer is reduced.
