To properly monitor your interface, you should have headphones or external studio monitors connected directly to your interface, rather than using your internal computer speakers or your PC’s internal headphone port. The digital to analogue conversion as well as the amplification on your interface will be superior to that of your computer. On Windows operating systems, you can only select a single audio interface device - either the ASIO driver for your interface or the Windows driver for your laptop audio card.
Therefore, it’s recommended to connect headphones or external speakers to the outputs of your Focusrite audio interface to properly monitor without latency or degradation of your audio.
Any standard 3.5 mm headphone input may also be fitted with a ¼” TRS adapter to fit the headphone port of any Focusrite interface.
