Applies to: All interfaces on macOS Sonoma and above
Starting in macOS Sonoma 14.0, Apple introduced 'Voice Isolation' features for audio inputs. When enabled, this can alter the audio quality of your input, and your channel mapping.
Unless specifically required, we would recommend disabling this feature. To do so, please set Mic Mode to 'Standard' from the Apple menu bar. To do this:
- Select the amber microphone icon
- Click 'Standard'
The Mic Mode setting should look like this screenshot, where Standard is selected:
'Voice Isolation' removes unwanted background noise from your microphone's signal, which may be beneficial in some use cases (voice calls, streaming). However, with 'Voice Isolation' enabled, all inputs will receiving the signal from input 1. For example, if you have two audio tracks in Logic Pro/Garageband, one track is set to receive from Input 1 and the other from Input 2, both tracks will receive audio from Input 1 when 'Voice Isolation' is enabled.
'Voice Isolation' only works for speech. As this is the case, you may hear glitchy audio if you're recording any other type of input (instruments, synths, etc).
'Voice Isolation' also only works with the first input of your interface. With Scarlett Solo 4th Gen, the mic input is on Input 2. As this is the case, you will need to enable Combine Input 1 + 2 in the Preferences section in Focusrite Control 2 to use Voice Isolation:
Using the Scarlett Solo 4th Gen in apps which only see one input or stereo inputs.
