Before troubleshooting any further, make sure we support your interface in Focusrite Control 2. As of version 1.1081.0, we support the following devices:
- Scarlett 4th Gen – entire range
- Scarlett 3rd Gen – entire range
- Scarlett 2nd Gen – 18i20, 18i8, and 6i6 only
- Clarett+ – entire range
- Clarett USB – entire range
- ISA C8X – requires version 1.980.0 or newer
If you have previously used the original Focusrite Control, you must fully uninstall it from your system before Focusrite Control 2 works. See the following article for our steps on how to uninstall Focusrite Control:

Windows
On Windows systems, you can check in Device Manager to see if your interface is being detected correctly by your computer:

Right-click
Start and open Device Manager.
- Focusrite interfaces should appear under both: Sound, video and game controllers and Focusrite Audio.
Is your device appearing in Device Manager as described above?
If your interface is not shown in Device Manager, please try the steps below:
- Ensure your Scarlett is connected to one of your computer's USB ports. Test a different USB port as well, ideally on another side of your computer. Did this help?
- If your Scarlett is connected via a USB hub, try connecting it directly to a port on your computer instead. Did this help?
- Try another USB cable, in case the one you're using is faulty. Ensure that it is no longer than 2 metres or 6 feet, and it is USB 2.0 (480Mbps) or above. Did this help?
- 2i2, 4i4, 16i16, and 18i16 only: Ensure the USB cable you're connecting to the computer is connected to the port labelled USB on your Scarlett and that it is receiving enough power. - If you have not restarted your computer since installing Focusrite Control 2, try restarting it. Did this help?
macOS
To confirm whether your interface is recognised by your Mac, you can check the system report:

Scroll down the About section

If your interface is being seen at a hardware level, it will appear in Hardware → USB:
Is your device appearing in System Report as described above?
If your interface is not shown in the System Report, please try the steps below:
- Ensure your Scarlett is connected to one of your computer's USB port. Test a different USB port as well, ideally on another side of your computer. Did this help?
- If your Scarlett is connected via a USB hub, try connecting it directly to a port on your computer instead. Did this help?
- Try another USB cable in case the one you're using is faulty. Ensure that it is no longer than 2 metres / 6 ft and is USB 2.0 (480Mbps) or above. Did this help?
- 2i2, 4i4, 16i16, and 18i16 only: Ensure the USB cable you're connecting to the computer is connected to the port labelled USB on your Scarlett and that it is receiving enough power. Loose USB connection
A slightly loose USB connection can prevent Scarlett 4th Gen being recognised by your computer, or receiving sufficient power. Try pushing the USB cable firmly into the USB-C port on the rear of the interface, so it 'clicks' into place; this may resolve any power or connection issues you are experiencing.
If you are using both the USB and 5V DC ports on a Scarlett 4th Gen with two USB ports, press both cables in firmly.
The port labelled USB should be connected to the computer, and the port labelled 5V DC should be connected to the power supply, if extra power is needed.
Windows
We have seen an installation issue that appears on some Windows machines that prevents Focusrite Control 2 from detecting your device. If you encounter this issue, you will likely see the error message below when running the installer:
You may also see the below error when trying to open Focusrite Notifier:
To fix this, please try removing any old Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable installations using this Microsoft troubleshooting tool: Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed.
The steps below outline how to remove old Redistributable installations with this troubleshooter:
- Download the troubleshooter via the link above.
- Run the troubleshooter by double-clicking the MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta file. This may be located in your Downloads folder.
- Click Next.
- Click Uninstalling.

Select the relevant Visual C++ Redistributable version and select
Next. The version you should select will be flagged
in the error message you see when running the Focusrite Control 2
installer:
- Select Yes, try uninstall and wait for the troubleshooter to finish.
- Now, try running the Focusrite Control 2 installer again.
macOS
If you have any other Focusrite software (Focusrite Control or RedNet Control) on your computer, make sure you have the latest version from here — sometimes Focusrite Control 2 will not detect your interface when you have other, older Focusrite software installed.
