Dante Virtual Soundcard (DVS) is software, made by Audinate, that turns your Windows or macOS computer into a Dante-enabled device, transmitting and receiving high-quality audio over your existing wired network connection.
Not all Focusrite Dante devices need DVS, so we don't bundle it with them. The following products do not come with DVS:
- RedNet PCIe Card
- RedNet PCIeR Card
- RedNet PCIeNX
- RedNet TNX
- RedNet R1
- RedNet 5
- RedNet HD32R
These products are designed to integrate your Dante network either directly into your computer or they are designed to work with another device to bridge your Dante network into your computer (for example the RedNet R1 works with the Red Thunderbolt interfaces).
If you have a Focusrite Dante product that comes bundled with Dante Virtual Soundcard you need to register the device on our website to access the license. After you register the device, your Dante Virtual Soundcard license is available in the "My Software" tab at the top of your account page.
To download, install, and activate the Dante Virtual Soundcard (DVS) license that comes with your Focusrite device:
- Scroll to find Dante Virtual Soundcard or select 'Utility' to find DVS (Dante Virtual Soundcard).
- Click View Details to view your DVS code.
- Click 'Show me my code' button to show your code for DVS.
- Click Copy, to copy your code.
- Click the link to the Audinate website.
- Create a free Audinate account on their website. When prompted, enter the Dante Virtual Soundcard token from your Focusrite account to add DVS to your Audinate account. This generates the Audinate Activation Code to activate Dante Virtual Soundcard. (Shown under “License ID” see screenshot below).
- Open Dante Virtual Soundcard from your computer's application tab.
- Click the Licensing tab.
- Enter your License ID and click Activate.
You have now activated Dante Virtual Soundcard.
To get started with DVS, open it and go to the Settings tab (Screenshot below). Here you can select the number of audio channels, Dante latency, and your network interface. The network interface represents which Ethernet port you're using if your computer has more than one.
On Windows systems, you there are options to use DVS in ASIO or WDM mode.
Click ‘Start’ to start DVS. Then, select DVS as your default playback device.
- Mac: System Preferences > Sound > Output > Select DVS as the device
- Windows: Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Select DVS as the device
