Microphones

The phantom power (48V) on some Focusrite interfaces is switched on in banks of two or four. This will almost never be a problem with modern microphones.

If you are recording with condenser mics that require phantom power, any dynamic mics (that do not need phantom power) that are also connected to affected channels will be supplied with 48V.

Generally, this does not cause issues unless you're using very old microphones. We advise checking with the mic manufacturer first before connecting.

Please take care when using vintage ribbon microphones - you can potentially damage vintage, non-active ribbon microphones with phantom power.

Instrument/Line inputs

The instrument and line-level inputs on Focusrite interfaces are 6.35 mm (1/4”) jack inputs only– 48V phantom power is not sent to the jack inputs.

You can connect instrument or line-level devices to the jack inputs on channels where 48V phantom power is on.
