Applies to: Scarlett Solo (4th gen)
We've added a setting to the Scarlett Solo 4th Gen which combines both input channels to allow applications that can usually only receive one input to receive both inputs (line/inst and mic).
Some apps have a limitation which means they only accept the first input from audio interfaces. On the Scarlett Solo 4th gen, the microphone connects to Input 2; some customers have reported that they're not able to use their mic with these apps.
To enable this feature in Focusrite Control 2:
- Open Preferences in Focusrite Control 2.
- Enable the tick box next to Combine Input 1 and Input 2.
Or to enable it via the hardware:
- Press and hold the front panel 'Direct' button for three seconds.
To show this mode is enabled, the channel number LEDs both light green (they are white by default).
We recommend you disable this feature when recording in DAW software, which allows you to select the input channel you wish to record.
This feature is also useful when using apps which will accept both inputs from the Solo, but pans Input 1 fully left and Input 2 fully right. This is not generally an issue in DAW software, as you can simply change the input source to mono and record each input on a separate track (see here for more details).
However, in other apps, your audience will hear audio from Input 1 in the left speaker/headphone and audio from Input 2 in the right speaker/headphone. If you are only using one of the inputs on your Solo, they will only hear it on the left or right side of your speakers/headphones, depending on which Input you're using. Enabling “Combine Input 1 and Input 2” both inputs on the Solo are summed and heard from both sides of their speakers or headphones.
