Even if you do not believe McAfee was ever installed on your PC, or if you have already uninstalled it, we still recommend running the MCPR tool if you are experiencing blue screen crashes.
We have seen multiple reports of stop errors or BSoD crashes caused by an outdated McAfee virtual driver called mfehidk.sys when using our drivers on Windows 10 and 11. When this occurs, the screen will turn blue, and you will likely see one of the following error messages before the PC reboots.
mfehidk.sys
or
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
To resolve this, please do the following:
- Disconnect your audio interface from the computer to stop the crashes.
- Download and run the MCPR tool to remove any McAfee software — you can install the latest version of McAfee from your McAfee account after completing these steps.
- Restart your computer when prompted.
- Download and reinstall the software and drivers for your Focusrite interface:

If you are still experiencing these crashes after completing the steps above, please contact McAfee support for further assistance.
If the steps above resolve the BSoDs, but you now see errors during or after installation of Focusrite drivers or software, please see this article:
