Applies to OBS and all Focusrite USB audio interfaces
This guide walks you through how to setup your Focusrite audio interface in Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), setup an audio source and add a video source. To learn more about how to use OBS, see OBS's Knowledge Base:
Windows
- Open OBS on your computer.
- In the Sources tab, click the + symbol and select Audio Input Capture from the drop down menu.
- Select Create new, and name the input source.
- In the Device dropdown menu, select Analogue 1 + 2 (2-Focusrite USB Audio)
- If you add a mono audio source, for example a microphone, in the Audio Mixer, click on the settings cogwheel to open the Advanced Audio Properties tab.
- In the Advanced Audio Properties, tick the Mono tickbox for the audio input source created. This ensures audio from the interface is panned centrally
- Click Close.
- Repeat steps 2-7 if adding multiple audio inputs to OBS. To add system audio, select Application Audio Capture (BETA) or add the loopback inputs of your interface. See Adding multiple inputs in streaming software on Windows using Loopback for how to configure the loopback.
- In the Sources tab, click the + symbol and select Display Capture or Window Capture from the drop down menu to add a video source.
- Name the input source, and click OK
-
Set the Capture Method to Automatic and the Display to the Display you would like to capture. Click Ok once set.
- Once setup, in the Controls tab, click either Start Streaming or Start Recording to begin.
On Windows, OBS only natively supports WDM audio devices. As a result, each audio source in OBS is shown as a stereo pair that can be mixed down to mono from the left and right channels. Please see the Advanced audio setup for a workaround to this issue
Advanced audio setup
Make sure you install the Focusrite audio driver and control software before going through these steps. If you do not have the Focusrite audio driver or control software installed you can download this from here.
- Download and install the ASIO plugin for OBS from here.
- In the Sources tab, click the + symbol and select ASIO Input Capture from the drop-down menu.
- In the properties window, set the Device to Focusrite USB ASIO, Format to Mono or Stereo, depending on the audio source and OBS Channels to the inputs used.
Set the channel format to Mono if you are recording with a single microphone or a mono instrument such as a bass or guitar connected to input 1.
Set the channel format to Stereo if you are recording with a stereo instrument such as a keyboard or synthesiser connected to inputs 1-2 or the loopback intpus.
- Repeat steps 2-3 if adding multiple audio inputs to OBS.
macOS

- Select Create new, and name the input source.
- Set the Method and Display to capture the desired display or application. Click Ok when set.
- Once setup, in the Controls tab, click either Start Streaming or Start Recording to begin.
If you notice that your audio is not syncing up with your video, you may need to apply a sync offset to synchronise them in the Advanced Audio Properties. You can adjust the Sync Offset value in milliseconds. The exact value you set depends on how your computer is processing the audio and video, so you will have to experiment in order to find the right value.
