What is a plug-in?

An audio plug-in is a software component that adds or enhances audio-related functionality in your audio software (Logic, Pro-Tools, Ableton Live, etc). Audio plug-ins usually provide their own user interface which can be opened from within your audio software once the plug-in has been installed and activated.

Examples of audio plug-ins include the Novation B-Station and Focusrite Red plug-in suite.
