In this guide, we will be creating a Custom Mix that adds a mix of Analog and ADAT channels for monitoring through a Clarett+ 8Pre. This is typical for a drummer who wants to play over a Playback track. This will also helpful if you want to play your instrument without having to open recording software, or even for general troubleshooting purposes.
1. Go to the Output Routing tab in Focusrite Control and assign a Custom Mix to your preferred outputs. To do this, click on the grey rectangle to expose the dropdown menu and select the 'Custom Mix' option.
2. When a Custom Mix is assigned, this will enable the mixer in Focusrite Control. This should look something like this:
3. Click on the [+] sign to the very right of the last fader. This will expose a menu to the right where we can select the inputs that we want to hear.
4. In this example, we want to hear all of our Analog and ADAT input signal so we will add these Hardware Inputs by highlighting their channels in this menu:
5. We can also assign a Custom Mix to the headphone port by following Step 1, except this time we are assigning this to Line Outputs 7-8, which shares the same mix as Headphone port 1 of the Clarett+ 8Pre.
Once your Custom Mix is set an assigned to your preferred outputs, any incoming signal from the Analog or ADAT channels will be heard in the outputs that you assigned this to. Here is an example of what Focusrite Control should look like when these steps are completed:
