Applies to: Clarett Range
The latest version of Focusrite Control available on our public beta site adds support for Thunderbolt 3 systems (see below). We have found that not all systems with Thunderbolt 3 ports will perform equally so we have qualified the following systems for use with the Clarett range with the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter:
- Intel NUC: Intel i7 7th Generation
- Molten Music ASUS X-99: Intel i7 5th Generation
- HP ZBook 15: i7 6th Generation
- Dell XPS 15: i7 7th Generation
The following system does not work correctly using the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, but will allow you to use a Clarett in conjunction with the Startech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter (though this does not support hot plugging*):
- Lenovo P70: i7 6th Generation
*If you turn on the computer first and then the Clarett then this will work and it will continue to work in this state if you unplug and re-plug the Clarett. If, however, you switch the Clarett off and on while the computer is on, this will not work and unplugging/re-plugging the device will not fix the issue.
We are aware of issues with the following systems and would not recommend them for use with the Clarett range:
- Dell XPS 13: i5 7th Generation
- ASUS N501VW: i7 6th Generation
If you already have a computer with Thunderbolt 3 ports that’s not on our list above and you wish to test to see if a Clarett works on your system, in general we would recommend the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.
You can obtain the beta version of Focusrite Control that adds Thunderbolt 3 Windows support here.
For more information on setting up a Thunderbolt system with a Clarett interface please see this article.
If you need any more information please contact Technical Support.
Please note: if you encounter issues with a Clarett on a system that we have not tested (or we have listed as not working correctly) then our Technical Support team may not be able to advise on a solution at this time as the problem may be due to the way that Thunderbolt 3 is implemented on that specific machine.
